15 February 2023

(ANS - Lima) - The second day of the Animation Visit of the Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, to the "Santa Rosa of Lima" Province of Peru was full of appointments and significant moments: the assembly with the confreres and the installation of the new Provincial of Peru, Fr. Juan Pablo Alcas Michilot.

Yesterday morning, February 14, the Successor of Don Bosco gathered with Salesians from the different Peruvian communities for a fraternal meeting. It was a special moment, especially when five of the confreres present made their profession of faith as the new Directors of their respective communities; thus, Fr. Ángel Carbajal will begin his service as Director of the Salesian community of Rímac, Fr. Félix López in Piura, Fr. Fidélius Adjanonhoun in San Lorenzo, Fr. Fernando Rodríguez in the community of "Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, Magdalena del Mar," and, finally, Fr. Roman Olesinski, of the Mary Help of Christians Community of Breña.

During this fraternal day, the Rector Major shared his reflections and thoughts and talked about the challenges facing the Salesian Province of Peru.

Afterward, in a touching ceremony presided over by Fr. Artime and concelebrated by several Salesians from Peru, the installation of the new Provincial, Fr. Juan Pablo Alcas Michilot, who was appointed as Provincial Superior of Peru (PER) in December 2022 for the 2023-2029 term, was celebrated. Held in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians, the solemn Eucharist was also attended by the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Friends of Don Bosco, Salesian Cooperators, hundreds of parishioners, and youth.

During the ceremony, the Rector Major expressed, first of all, his own excitement at being in Peru, especially in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians. "A beautiful Basilica," he said. Second, he thanked Fr. Manolo Cayo for his presence these past six years. Finally, appreciating the availability and generosity of the new Provincial, he said, "The Provincial must take care of his confreres, even the most fragile ones. He must take care of the communion and unity of the Salesian Family. Dear Juan Pablo," continued Don Bosco's Successor, "in you, we have looked for the figure of a father, as Don Bosco was. Indeed, the Provincial must, first of all, be a father and it is up to you now to be one."

Before concluding, the Rector Major addressed the young people, saying, "Our predilection is for young people, boys and girls, especially the most disadvantaged. We are a family for all, but especially for the last, those who are far away. Dear young people, we expect much from you. Don Bosco needs you in all our houses, so, be brave, come forth!"

For his part, the new Superior expressed joy and hope for this new challenge, which he is facing with dedication and responsibility. "Two months ago, my project was another one, but the Lord changed it through the Rector Major. I would never have said no. I am here, Lord," concluded Fr. Juan Pablo Alcas, "to do your will.

After the celebration was over, the Salesian Family of Peru gathered for a moment of conviviality and to toast the Visit of the Rector Major and the installation of the new Provincial.
