25 February 2023

(ANS – Hyderabad) -  The Rector Major, Fr. Ángel Fernández Artime, the tenth successor of Don Bosco arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on 25 February around 5.30 am in the morning. He  would meet the beneficiaries, Salesians and the Salesian Family members of the Province of Hyderabad during the four days of visit, before he begins the Team visit from 1 March 2023.

The Salesian Province of St Joseph, Hyderabad joyfully welcomed once again the Tenth Successor of Don Bosco, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, who last visited the Province in November 2016. He was warmly welcomed at the airport and brought to the Provincial House by Fr Biju Michael, the Regional Councillor for South Asia; Fr Santiagu Thomas, the Provincial; Fr Michael Kishore, the Vice Provincial and the Community members of Don Bosco Provincial House and BIRDY, and other Salesians and friends of Don Bosco.

The communities of the Provincial House and BIRDY joined the Rector Major for the Holy Mass at BIRDY Youth Chapel at 11.30 am.  In his homily he exhorted everyone to entreat the Heavenly Father to give the heart like that of Jesus Christ in overcoming the human tendency of being powerful with the delicate and delicate with the powerful in imitation of the pharisees.

After the fraternal moments of agape with the confreres, the Rector Major proceeded for the first public event of the day, at the Don Bosco School, Bandlaguda. The traditional welcoming with the guard of honour and the classical dance  led him to the school, where he began with lighting of the lamp along with children dressed as Don Bosco, Mama Margaret, Dominic Savio who symbolically represented their spiritual presence and their bountiful blessings received through the visit of the Rector Major.

While addressing the students, the Rector Major narrated the story of a man who visited him three days ago and told him how grateful he was to the Salesians of Don Bosco who educated him and who were patient with him despite his troubling them very much. He commented, “That man told me, I am now well settled in life. If not for the Salesians, I would be a prisoner and been lost. It was a heart touching experience”. Speaking further, the Rector Major acknowledged, “according to me, education is a wonderful garment for any nation. It does not just contribute to the present but also gives a future.” He expressed his gratitude to the Salesians who are doing their part here in India as far as education is concerned, to build students and guide them to face their future confidentially. The entire school community, along with the children and teachers danced and sang praises to Don Bosco, and it was a feast to the eyes.
