Father Wagner Ferreira da Silva, 51, was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has been a member of Canção Nova, in the Core commitment mode, for 31 years. He was ordained a priest on December 27, 1999, and received his doctorate in Moral Theology from the Accademia Alfonsiana in Rome, Italy. From 2009 to 2015 he was a member of the General Council as General Formator. Since 2018 he held the position of Vice President. On March 16, 2022, he was elected Deliberative President of the John Paul II Foundation, a position previously held by the Founder and first President of Canção Nova, the late Msgr. Jonas Abib, whose passing on December 12, 2022, necessitated this election. Father Ferreira da Silva is also Deputy Coordinator of "Charis," the Brazilian Service of Communion created by the Holy See for the grace current of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.
Father Donizete Heleno Ferreira, 42, was born in Rio Pomba, Brazil. He has been a member of Canção Nova, in the Core commitment mode, for 20 years. He was ordained a priest on December 20, 2009. He holds a degree in Portuguese/English Literature from the University "Presidente Antônio Carlos" (UNIPAC) and a Doctorate in Canon Law in Rome, Italy. He is a member of the General Assembly and has served as Adviser to the General Secretariat.
According to the Canonical Statute, the President is charged with "directing and coordinating the life and activity of the Canção Nova Community, with the task of overseeing the charism and mission: its realization, growth and continuity."
"To assist and collaborate with the President in the day-to-day tasks and responsibilities of the Canção Nova Community," on the other hand, are the attributions of the Vice-President, as established by the Canonical Statute.
The Canonical Statute of the Canção Nova Community also indicates that its Superior and Council exercise a 5-year term. Since the election of the current Council took place in 2021, the current President and Vice President will serve until 2026.
