Portugal – "Fundação Salesianos" launches charity campaign linked to income taxes

29 March 2023

(ANS - Lisbon) - The "Fundação Salesianos," an institution of social solidarity promoted by the Salesian Province "St. Anthony" of Portugal, Missions Department, recently launched a campaign linked to the devolution of Income Tax of Physical Persons (Imposto sobre o Rendimento das Pessoas Singulares - IRS, in Portuguese) that aims to help young people in vulnerable situations, supported by structures such as "SolSal - Solidariedade Salesiana" or "Missão Dom Bosco - Fundo Solidário Salesiano."

The Salesian foundation's primary objective is to support children and youth in vulnerable situations, promoting the education and integral formation of each one, thus ensuring their future.

Precisely to further this mission, it launched the campaign linked to the devolution of a share of the IRS, called "Nem tudo é imposto. Ao consignar está a ajudar!" (Not everything is imposed: in donating, you help).

When filing their tax returns, Portuguese residents and nonresidents who receive income in Portugal will be able to choose to donate 0.5 percent of their assessed tax to Salesian work, thus helping to ensure the education and education of at-risk youth. To do so, they will have to access the "Entity to which the IRS/VAT is to be donated" page of the Finance Portal and enter the reference code of the "Fundação Salesianos" - NIF 510 166 822 - or they can fill in box 11 of the Form 3 Declaration with the same code.

Thanks to this contribution, which entails no additional cost to taxpayers in Portugal, the Salesian foundation will be able to maintain and develop its social works, thus ensuring the integral formation of young people and their future. The social projects developed by the Salesian foundation in Portugal and in developing countries have as their main objective the promotion and protection of children and young people and their families, fostering education in citizenship, peace, justice, the common good, and environmental education as a fundamental support for the harmonious development of children and young people. Specifically, projects include: family accompaniment services, socio-sports schools, children's and youth homes, vocational training, and projects supported by the NGO and Salesian Mission Office "Missão Dom Bosco."

As the Superior of the Salesians in Portugal, Fr. José Aníbal Mendonça, said in this regard, the mission of the Salesian Foundation is to "support disadvantaged youth by providing them with the education and training they need to face the challenges of today's world."

The IRS's "Imposto sobre o Rendimento das Pessoas Singulares" campaign is an opportunity for taxpayers, in a simple and effective way, to contribute to building a more just and inclusive future, where everyone can have access to education and training.
