Italy – 17th anniversary of Servant of God Nino Baglieri’s death

04 March 2024

(ANS – Modica) – After a whole week of events involving the diocese of Noto, citizens in Modica and the local Salesian Family, on Saturday 2 March, the 17th anniversary of the death of Nino Baglieri, Volunteer with Don Bosco (CDB), a Eucharistic concelebration in memory of the Servant of God took place at the Mary Help of Christians parish in Modica.

The Celebration was attended by several groups of the Salesian Family in Modica, the Provincial of the Salesians in Sicily Fr Giovanni D'Andrea, some CDBs, several Salesian and diocesan priests, the family and friends of Nino Baglieri, as well as the Mayor of Modica, Maria Monisteri.

"17 years after Nino's death, his memory is a very strong sign for us. God never forgets our journey. The presence of the Saints and those who have lived in the light of the Gospel is a very strong sign for us" the bishop said in the homily.

Nino Baglieri, the Bishop of Noto continued, was an "apostle and missionary of joy even under the weight of the cross that he was able to embrace in his life. Nino was able to give his life as Jesus did into the hands of the Father. Through the cross we can reach the light. Because through death rebirth takes place: here is the mystery of the Gospel."

At the conclusion of the celebration, Bishop Rumeo also announced that the solemn closure of the diocesan investigation of the Cause of Nino Baglieri will be held on 5 May 2024 at 6:00 p.m., at the San Pietro church in Modica.

After the celebration, the day of homage to the Servant of God was completed with the opening of a new portion of the Museum dedicated to Nino Baglieri, which now houses several new elements.
