France – 2025 secondary school rankings: two Don Bosco schools in the national top 10

24 April 2025

(ANS – Paris) – Every year, the Ministry of National Education publishes the ‘performance indicators’ for schools. The value-added indicators for secondary schools (IVAC or IVAL) make it possible to determine what schools have actually contributed to pupils throughout their school years. This year, two schools in the Salesian network stand out in particular.

Based on these indicators, many media outlets publish their own rankings of the best middle schools and high schools in France. There are regional rankings, but also national rankings.

The Pastré-Grande Bastide middle school in Marseille ranks 10th in the national ranking published by Le Parisien-Aujourd'hui en France. The newspaper says it compared 4,667 secondary schools with more than 80 candidates for the Brevet in 2024. The pass rate for the Brevet among pupils at the Salesian secondary school in Marseille was 100% in 2024. And the rate of progression from Year 6 to Year 9 was 92%.

The Don Bosco secondary school in Lyon was ranked 10th nationally among the best-performing vocational secondary schools in France, according to BFMTV's ranking of 1,417 schools. The criteria used for this ranking are, in order: the baccalaureate pass rate in 2024; the percentage of students receiving honours in the same year; the ‘access rate’ between the second year and the baccalaureate (the proportion of second-year students who obtained their diploma while remaining at the school); and the ‘added value’ for these three indicators.

For the Don Bosco secondary school, the baccalaureate pass rate in 2024 was 100%, with 76% of students receiving honours. Fifty-nine students sat the exams.
