Italy – Concluding Program of the School of Salesian Spiritual Accompaniment – English speaking group

09 May 2025

(ANS – Castelnuovo Don Bosco) – The School of Salesian spiritual accompaniment for the English-speaking group concluded the 5 – week program with the eucharist at the Basilica of Don Bosco at Colle Don Bosco. It was presided by our Rector Major Fr. Fabio Attard. It is his first mass in the birthplace of Don Bosco after becoming Rector Major.

In his homily, he was sharing with the participants 3 important points:

–     The invitation to contemplate Christ in the world. In this manner, the Salesian becomes a sign and bearer of God’s love in our world today with its many challenges.

–     We need to be men of God, the need to be Christ-like by taking care of our daily meditation which is our mystic space. It provides nourishment for the soul.

–     To keep feeding the love for Don Bosco. We need to know Don Bosco more so we can love him more and his way of loving

Hence, we all need to be accompanied in the journey. Who is my Cafasso? Educators and pastors especially those called in leadership roles when they are not guided are a danger to themselves and to others. Ther is the danger of being self-referential. We are called not what we can do but who we are to be.

After the eucharist, lunch followed with a little program. Then the Rector Major had a fraternal moment with the Salesian community of Colle then it was followed by a fraternal moment with the participants of the school of Salesian spiritual accompaniment where our Rector Major gave the certificates and tokens. The Rector Major emphasized again what he mentioned during his homily narrating how his involvement in the school has been a transformative experience. The day ended with the participants expressing their gratitude and assurances of prayers for our Rector Major and his council.
