America – Salesian Missions in America – 150 years: contexts, contributions and challenges up to the Second Vatican Council

06 June 2025

(ANS – Buenos Aires) – From 3 to 7 June 2025, in keeping with the call for a Church that goes forth in this jubilee year, the Association of Salesian History Enthusiasts (ACSSA) will meet in Buenos Aires (Argentina) to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the arrival of the first Salesian missionaries in America.

This warm meeting, in the form of a seminar, will be attended by 45 people in person and 90 online, including religious and lay people from various sister countries: Guatemala, Uruguay, Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Peru, Honduras, Bolivia, Puerto Rico, Paraguay, Austria, Poland-Rome, Argentina and Ecuador.

The presentation of research, books and magazines is the focus of attention for the participants, who discover each day the life of service of the Salesians and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians who, together with the accompaniment of the laity, have experienced and continue to experience the mission today.

The richness of sharing these days in community, through daily activities, creates opportunities for dialogue and encounter between the various cultures represented. Renewing the missionary spirit for our time, we enthusiastically live our commitment to recognise, give thanks for and relaunch the charism of Don Bosco in these lands and throughout the world.
