RMG - Appointment of the new Superior of the Province of the South Philippines (FIS)

(ANS - Rome) - As part of the work of the summer plenary session of the General Council, the Rector Major, Fr Fabio Attard, 11th Successor of Don Bosco, with the consent of the other members of the General Council, has appointed Fr Racelis as Superior of the Salesian Province ‘Mary Help of Christians’, South Philippines (FIS) for the 2025-2031 six-year term.

Fr Racelis, who is currently the Vice-Provincial, has been in charge of the animation and governance of the Province since last 28 March, following the appointment of Fr Fidel Maria Orendain, the previous FIS Provincial, as General Councillor for Social Communication, which took place in Turin during the 29th General Chapter of the Salesian Congregation.

Amelito D. Racelis was born on 29 October 1965 in Manila, capital of the Philippines. He did is novitiate in Canlubang between 1984 and 1985, professinghis first vows on 1st April 1985. He then professed perpetual vows on 24 March 1992, at Parañaque, and was ordained a priest on 8 December 1993.

Among his assignments in the communities of his Province, he was first Vice-Rector at Bacolod, in the house at Granada (1994-95), then Bursar (2007-11) and Rector 2011-20 at the Lawa-an centre in Talisay; finally, from 2021 to date, Rector of the Talamban house. Cebu.

At the Province level, he was a member of the Formation Team (2008-12) and then Formation Coordinator (2015-21), and since 2021 Vice-Provincial.

His academic qualifications include a Licentiate in Sacred Liturgy from the Pontifical St Anselm Athenaeum in Rome.
