Although a ceasefire was declared on July 28, the scars left by the brief war remain deep. Communities on both sides of the border now face a daunting recovery, with the conflict impacting not only lives and livelihoods, but also the education and health of countless children and families.
In response, the Salesian Family of Thailand quickly rallied to offer relief. Guided by Fr. Matthew Kitichai Saisawang, Delegate for Salesian Youth Ministry, and supported by Fr. Noppadon Joseph, Salesian seminarians, and lay members, the group launched a donation drive for desperately needed essentials. On August 2, they partnered with the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres and the Diocese of Ubon Ratchathani to deliver food, hygiene items, and encouragement to displaced people in Srisaket Province. Their mission: to ease suffering, inspire hope, and bear witness to Christian solidarity.
Meanwhile, across the border in Poipet, Cambodia, the Salesian community at Don Bosco School, under the care of Fr. Michael Gaikwad, Br. Anthony, and Teacher Veasna, reached out to their own students and families, many of whom were deeply affected by the uncertainty and fear generated by the conflict. Their visits offered comfort and reassurance, letting children and parents know they were not alone in these trying times.
The Salesian response, marked by swift action and heartfelt presence, stands as a testament to Don Bosco’s legacy of compassionate service. As border communities begin the long path toward healing, the Salesian Family remains at their side—offering not just material support, but also the gift of hope.
