Italy – The Salesian School Commission in Europe Working for the Future

04 November 2025

(ANS – Rome) – From October 30 to November 1, 2025, as part of the celebration of the Educational World Jubilee, the Salesian School Commission in Europe (SSE) gathered at the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS) in Rome. The primary purpose of the meeting was to reflect on the future of the Commission and create a plan for work over the next six years.

15 Provincial Delegates for Schools from their respective regions particpated in the event: Fr. Óscar Bartolomé (SSM), Fr. Jean-Noël Charmoille (FRB), Fr. Danijel Dragičević (CRO), Fr. David O'Malley (GBR), Fr. Lorenzo Teston (INE), Marco Dias da Silva (POR), Fr. Miroslaw Wierzbicki (PLN), Mateusz Tutak (PLE), Miguel Canino Zanoletty (SMX), Davide Sordi (ICP), Fr. Bart Decancq (BEN), Fr. Domenico Muscherà (ISI), Ramy Halim (MOR), and Stefano Mascazzini (ILE), led by the continental coordinator, Antonio Rodríguez.

Starting from the orientational work on the new "Education Office," incorporated into the Youth Pastoral Sector, and the School Coordination, the delegates shared and discussed the new perspectives presented by Fr. Oscar Lozano, Coordinator of the Education Office. In this regard, they are moving toward a consolidated network that gains momentum from sharing awareness about strengths and areas needing improvement in the inspection processes related to schools.

The general guidelines the Commission has left as reference points for planning its work are:

Consolidation of the Salesian School network in Europe; Sharing Salesian formation experiences and governance practices; Developing concrete parameters for measuring the quality of Salesian schools; A shared perspective and momentum toward integrating families into the educational-pastoral work of schools.

At the same time, the group participated in the main events of the Educational World Jubilee held from October 31 and November 1 especially in the Papal audience and Eucharist with Pope Leo, besides the pilgrimage through the Holy Door.
