(ANS – Rome) – The Province of St John Bosco in the Czech Republic also has a new Provincial: Fr Václav Jiráček, appointed on the morning of Friday, 5 December 2025, by the Rector Major, Fr Fabio Attard, with the consent of the members of the General Council. His mandate will cover the six‑year period 2026–2032.

Originally from Eastern Bohemia, specifically from the small village of Doubravice, near Nové Hrady, Fr Jiráček was born on 23 September 1980 in what was then Czechoslovakia. He studied at the industrial school of electrical engineering and later entered the Salesian novitiate in Prague-Dolní Počernice, where he made his first profession on 14 August 2004. He then made his perpetual vows on 26 June 2010 in Prague, studied theology in České Budějovice and was ordained a priest on 15 September 2012 in Brno.

With Salesian experience focused mainly on pastoral work and service to young people, Fr Jiráček distinguished himself as Director of the Oratory in the Prague-Kobylisy house for 8 years (2013-21) and is currently Rector of the community of the same house (since 2021).

Passionate about technology, his other duties include being assistant parish priest of the Church of St. Teresa of the Child Jesus in Kobylisy and Councillor of the CEP Province (since 2022).

Fr Jiráček will assume this new responsibility as CEP Provincial from Fr Martin Hobza, who has been in office since 2020.
