India - Yemeni Minister assures: Fr Tom Uzhunnalil "is still alive"

(ANS - New Delhi) - During his official meeting to India, Yemen's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Abdulmalik Abduljalil Al-Mekhlafi, said that according to information available to him Fr Tom Uzhunnalil, the Indian Salesian priest kidnapped in Yemen on March 4, 2016 "is still alive", and assured that the Yemeni government is doing "everything possible to guarantee his release."

During his four-day official visit to India, which ends today – 13 July - the Hon. Al-Mekhlafi met with his Indian counterpart, Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, on Tuesday 11; during their courteous and prolonged talks, the Indian minister expressed his government's concern for the security and well-being of Fr Uzhunnalil and confirmed the availability of Indian diplomacy to assist Yemeni authorities to secure the "safe and timely release" of the Salesian priest.

The Salesian Congregation, who continues to follow Fr Uzhunnalil's story closely, renews the invitation to pray for him, his family, and his release.
