RMG – Nominated new Provincial of "San Domenico Savio" Province of Brazil-Manaus

(ANS - Rome) - With the consensus of his Council, and after ample consultation in the Province by the Counselor for the America South Cone Region, Fr Natale Vitali, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, has nominated Fr Jefferson Luis da Silva Santos as the new Provincial of the "San Domenico Savio" Province of Brazil-Manaus (BMA) for the six-year term: 2018-2024.

Fr da Silva Santos was born on 6 November 1969 in Belém (PA). He attended the Salesian School of Labor (EST) in Belém and did his novitiate in Candeias do Jamari between 1992 and 1993. He made his perpetual vows on 30 January 1999 in the Salesian parish of Santa Terezinha, Manaus, and was ordained priest on 8 December 2000 by the laying on of hands and the consecratory prayer of Msgr. Franco Dalla Valle, SDB, then bishop of Juína.

Over the years he has held various roles: Vicar and Economer in the post-novitiate; for three years, Director of the prenovitiate; Economer at the Don Bosco Est-Manaus Institute; director of the Oratory of Santa Isabel do Rio Negro; Director of the Salesian community of Porto Velho and of the Don Bosco Institute, Porto Velho.

He also collaborated for two years in the formation of theology students at the "Gerini" house in Rome and for a year at the Centro Studi di Lapa, São Paulo Province.

He was Delegate of Youth Ministry between 2004 and 2011. Since 2013 he has held the office of Provincial Economer, and Delegate for the Salesian Family since 2014.

Fr da Silva Santos, who succeeds Fr Francisco Alves de Lima at the helm of the BMA Province, will take office in July 2018.
