RMG - Rector Major's Letter at conclusion of Second Seminar on Salesian Holiness

30 May 2018

(ANS - Rome) - Following the celebration of the Second Seminar to promote the Causes of Beatification and Canonization of the Salesian Family, held in Rome from 10 to 14 April 2018, with the participation of about 90 people, coming from different parts of the world, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, sent a letter to the Superiors and Heads of the Salesian Family, Provincials, and animators and promoters of the Causes.

In his message, Fr Á.F. Artime emphasizes how, through high-quality relationships, moments of sharing and working in groups, the goal to present the contents and the processes that help in ascertaining and accompanying presumed miracles has been achieved. But above all, he reminds all how this meeting was a further confirmation that the promotion and care of the Causes of Beatification and Canonization of the Salesian Family activate dynamics of grace, arouse evangelical joy and a sense of charismatic belonging, renew one's resolve and commitment of fidelity to the summons received and generate apostolic and vocational fruitfulness.

The meeting, in fact, highlighted how the journey and the testimonies of holiness in the Salesian Family are, above all, a gift of the Holy Spirit, to be welcomed with humility and gratitude. They confirm that it is not enough to carry out services or do things, but it is necessary to bring Jesus and bring to Jesus, proclaiming the joy of the Gospel.

He then indicated a number of challenges to take up and address:

- to continue in the Salesian Family, in communion with the local Churches, the action of promoting the Causes through initiatives to make known, imitate and pray our candidates for sanctity;

- to ensure that for every Cause, there are people at the local level who take responsibility for accompanying our Causes;

- increase awareness of the importance of the miracle for the successful outcome of the Cause, as a sign of intercession and proof of the extraordinary intervention of divine mercy;

- to value and appreciate the wealth of the one Salesian Family, made up of 31 groups - a richness that in its way is unique in the Church.

Concluding his message, the Rector Major hopes that these initiatives will be a privileged means to promote the common vocation to holiness dear to Salesian tradition and to which the whole Church is urged on with the apostolic exhortation "Gaudete et Exultate" of Pope Francis.
