Spain - Two Salesian institutes improve their Certificates of Excellence in Administration

09 October 2018

(ANS - Madrid) - Two Salesian schools in Madrid have recently improved their Certification of Excellence. On September 27, the Salesian school "Ciudad de los Muchachos" received the European Seal of Excellence EFQM 400+, while the Salesian school of Atocha since September 28th boasts the European Seal of Excellence EFQM 500+, a recognition held only by 21 institutions throughout the country.

During the award ceremony of the certificate to the Ciudad de los Muchachos institute, in the district of Puente de Vallecas, center director Fr Arturo Alonso emphasized that the achievement of the European EFQM 400+ is due to work, visible and invisible, of the entire educative-pastoral community of the school: "Work is not done well, but in an excellent way, always leaving room for improvement." In this sense the Director encouraged everyone to work "in the global education of children, adolescents and young people to make them good Christians and honest citizens, according to a Christian conception of life and through the Don Bosco Preventive System, giving attention to everyone, especially the disadvantaged."

In the same way, the person responsible for the quality of the Atocha Salesian center, Mercedes Marugán, expressed: "We have quickly adapted ourselves to the educational offer, always keeping in mind those values that inspired Don Bosco. We design our educational programs according to the needs and expectations of students, families, people, companies, institutions ... The trust of students and their families is what encourages us."

The pedagogical director of the compulsory Secondary Education of the center of Atocha, Manuel Pinto, expressed in the name of the Director: "We have imagined the horizon in which we want to find our school model of tomorrow, configured with the principles of the EFQM model - for seeking excellence - but without losing sight of our Salesian style; a model that is creative and innovative; engaged in society, in synergy with companies and institutions to promote employment; is inclusive and concerned especially for the student, placing the student at the center of the educational action; welcoming and able to create an environment of support and security; socially significant, involved in the surrounding environment and in education to Christian values."

Fr Juan Carlos Pérez Godoy, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Spain-Saint James Major (SSM) and President of the Catholic Schools in Spain, participated in both ceremonies for the consignment of certificates. In his speeches, he recalled that Don Bosco was already committed to finding the best resources in the educational field. You have to "be among the first to be with the last ones and be able to give them all the opportunities that society denies them."
