Romania - Beds and benches for children of "Centrul Don Bosco"

28 December 2018

(ANS - Constanta) - In 2016, in Romania, it was estimated that almost 1000 children were abandoned due to poverty. In their favor, the "Centrul Salezian Don Bosco", directed by Fr Sergio Bergamin, SDB, is committed to creating social services for children and to give them all the possible help they can. In fact, in the center, assistance is provided to children through numerous educational and recreational activities. Support activities are also carried out for parents, legal representatives and for all the other people who take care of these children.

Fr Sergio has now created a new project, simple and concrete: he wants to buy beds and mattresses for the two Family Houses and for the boarding school and, moreover, desks and chairs for the after-school activities of the Day Center. The beneficiaries of this project would be 98 minors: 18 boys, who enjoy social assistance services in the Family Homes and in the social boarding school, all aged between 13 and 18 years. To these are added 80 primary and middle school children who are followed at the Day Center, with after-school activities (40 in the morning and 40 in the afternoon).

A simple project, but for many young people attending the Center, one that can truly make a difference.

It has been several years since the "Centrul Salezian Don Bosco" started a number of initiatives in support of the minors of Costanta who live in the most peripheral and problematic neighborhoods.

In its Center, there is an oratory, which welcomes 70 young people every day; a youth center that involves several groups of future animators, for a total of 70 people; after-school activities attended by 80 elementary and middle school children; a small boarding house in which children from distant areas who attend school currently sleep; a vocational training center and 2 family houses which each host 10 abandoned children.

The Salesian presence in Constance was started in 1996, encouraged by the Archbishop of Bucharest, Msgr. Ioan Robu, and since then Salesian action has always been projected towards the integration and growth of local youth.
