D.R. Congo - Fourth day of Rector Major's visit

15 May 2019

(ANS - Lubumbashi) - The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, continues his visit to Central Africa. On the morning of May 13, before going to the Kansebula post-novitiate, the X Successor of Don Bosco made a stop in the Kafubu valley, more than 15 km from the city of Lubumbashi, where Msgr. Gaston Ruvezi, SDB, bishop of Sakania-Kipushi, and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians form novices and run a high school.

After this moment of communion, Fr Á.F. Artime arrived in Kansebula where he was warmly welcomed by the Salesians in formation and their formators. The Rector Major then presided over the opening ceremony of the 60th formative year of the post-novitiate founded in 1959.

In the afternoon the Rector Major, accompanied by his Secretary, Fr Horacio López, Fr Américo Chaquisse, Councilor for the Africa-Madagascar Region, and Fr Albert Kabuge, AFC Provincial, together with a large delegation of Salesians and communication officers, visited the 'Bakanja-ville' Salesian house, a reception and recovery center for children and young people at risk. Fr Artime dialogued with many of the center's children who are assisted by the Salesians of the Province of Central Africa.

In the evening the Rector Major celebrated the feast of Maria Domenica Mazzarello with the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.
