Italy – 500 young people participate at German summer camp “Come to Bosco” at the Colle Don Bosco

(ANS – Castelnuovo Don Bosco) – Swimming, relaxing and getting to know Don Bosco. From 14 July to 18 August around 500 young people will experience a very special summer camp, following the invitation of the German Salesian province at the Colle Don Bosco near Turin in Italy, where Don Bosco grew up. “Here we have fun, but also can learn something and we can see something from the world,” says a 27-year old participant from the “Don Bosco Haus” in Chemnitz (Saxony).

Each group can choose their own program and term of stay. Volunteers at the Colle Don Bosco support them in any way possible to make their holidays a great experience. “Leisure time is always important for young people,” says Fr Johannes Kaufmann, responsible for youth ministry in the German Salesian province. “And we have the possibility here to bring the life story of Don Bosco, his ideas and accomplishments closer to the young people.”

At Valdocco the participants can visit Don Bosco’s first oratory. They can have a scavenger hunt in Turin and discover its sights. A Chieri tour, where Don Bosco went to school and became a priest, is also on the program. And there is the Colle Don Bosco itself with its basilica and the house, in which Don Bosco grew up. And of course, there are plenty of possibilities for leisure time, like hiking or playing cards.

“I will keep everything in good memory,” says Sylvia from Chemnitz. “And it opened a new path for me to the life and work of Don Bosco.”
