(ANS Rome) – After over a year and a half since its inception, the campaign “150 Young People in Search of an Author” presents the work done and the work still to be done. In recent months there have been 66 minors who, with the support of generous benefactors, have been given a concrete opportunity of redemption.

When it was launched in January 2018, the campaign “150 Young People in Search of an Author” represented a new challenge for the Salesian center “Borgo Ragazzi Don Bosco” who have always been committed to giving concrete answers to the needs of children with family, social and economic difficulties. But many accepted this new challenge: 25 benefactors in 2018, and 29 others only in the first half of 2019: 54 people who with a continuous donation have decided to support the educational and growth paths of the most troubled children.

Thanks to them, it was possible to help, in particular:

  • 22 young people (13 in 2018 and 9 in 2019), who have undertaken vocational training courses and traineeships that have introduced them to the world of work;
  • 15 children (9 in 2018 and 5 in 2019), who were welcomed in a safe and protected environment, away from deviant and/or abusive situations; 3 of them, who became of age and therefore left the Family Home, have continued to enjoy a gradual accompaniment towards adult life and the support of solidarity families;
  • 38 children (21 in 2018 and 11 in 2019), who have been included in sports activities or creative workshops;

In addition, the project also provided training and support to 3 families (2 in 2018 and 1 in 2019), who have started to host children in need of a new family environment.

The campaign, also promoted by the association “Rimettere le Ali” – also active at the Borgo Ragazzi Don Bosco– now stands at a turning point; after the results achieved so far, the challenge is to continue supporting the children, achieving the goal set for 2019, that is to accompany in their growth a total of 50 young people.

“Unfortunately last year we did not reach our objective – by just 5! - but we are convinced that with a little effort and with the collaboration of all, together we will be able to make the difference for the future of our young people and our society,” said the promoters of this initiative in a note.
