RMG – Agreement for development of new web portal of Salesian Institutions of Higher Education

11 October 2019

(ANS - Rome) - Why is it important to create a website? In the digital age, it would seem to have been an inappropriate question. "The Internet," wrote one of the directors of Google, E. Schmidt, "has become a ubiquitous and multi-faceted element of energy and human expression ... Hundreds of millions of people create and consume an incalculable amount of digital content every minute."  In a meeting on September 30, with this premise, the "Salesian Institutions of Higher Education" (IUS) signed an agreement for the creation of a web portal, a big job that will benefit thousands of young university students.

In a meeting of the Directors of the Salesian Polytechnic University of Ecuador, held on 30 September in Quito, the Inter-institutional Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Youth Ministry Department, the IUS General Coordination team and the Salesian Polytechnic University of Ecuador for the creation of a web portal.

The purpose of the agreement is the elaboration, designing and management of the IUS web portal in the world, which will strengthen the institutional and academic synergy among the IUS, generating at the same time the communicative diffusion of the IUS network in the context of the Salesian Congregation, of the Church and Society on an international level.

The agreement will last five years, during which the web portal is planned, managed and administered as a strategic tool for a synergistic and communication relationship of the IUS network. The portal will allow the creation of pages, the insertion of communicative contents, the visibility on the net, the sharing on social networks, the creation of databases, the animation of academic initiatives, and related.

The agreement is the conclusion of a process that involved the technical evaluation and recommendations on the previous website, the tender addressed to several IUS to receive offers for this service and, finally, the selection by the most convincing proposal by the Department for Youth Ministry.

It is necessary to keep in mind that the geographical, cultural, social and regulatory differences of the countries in which the IUS operate globally bring great diversity and complexity. These are universities, faculties, institutes of higher studies, polytechnics. The IUS network today consists of more than 90 Higher Education Institutes that serve 150,000 students in 22 countries on five continents. Therefore, it is essential to have a communication tool that articles and energizes this network.
