RMG – Rector Major visits Nepal and India

22 October 2019

(ANS - Rome) - Nepal is still struggling to rise from the terrible experience of the earthquakes that shook it deeply in the spring of 2015. For this reason, the Animation Visit that Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, X Successor of Don Bosco, leads to that country will surely be a useful encouragement for the local Salesian presence and young people.

Accompanied by his Secretary, Fr Horacio López, the Rector Major arrived today, Tuesday 22 October, in Nepal, where he will stay until Thursday 24. He shall then continue to the India-Calcutta Province (INC), to which the Salesian works of Nepal refer.

After being welcomed at Kathmandu airport, the Rector Major shall spend the day meeting with all the Salesians, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) and various religious authorities.

Tomorrow, October 23, the central act will be the Mass for the Salesian Family and the young people at the "Don Bosco Thecho" center, followed by the blessing of the foundation stone of the Salesian Mission in Western Nepal, and a visit to the Lubhu center in the afternoon.

On Thursday 24, on reaching the town of Biratnagar, the Rector Major shall animate another meeting with local Salesians and FMA, as well as dialoguing with the local youth and presiding over the Eucharist for all the faithful present. On Thursday evening, Fr Á.F. Artime will cross the border and enter India.

On Friday 25, at Siliguri, he meets with the INC Provincial and his council, and the students of the area's Salesian schools as well as members of the Salesian Family. On Saturday 26, the last day of the Animation Visit to the Province, he will inaugurate and bless the new structures of the Campus of the Salesian College of Siliguri, and celebrate a special Eucharist for the children of the various youth groups who attend the institute.
