For the first time since it grants these awards (40 years), this year “Manos Unidas” has decided internally, through a vote, the categories and people worthy of being recognized for their work, commitment and support in defense of the most disadvantaged. In this way, "Manos Unidas" has set up 11 categories of awards, which represent all the sectors that have made the work of the NGO possible in 60 years of life.
In a presentation, Sister Garcia declared: “You have saved these girls who previously roamed the streets and who are now dignified girls with a dignified life. Thousands of young people will continue to pass through our centers thanks to you, to your sacrifice. Together we can change the world a little, by feeding the hungry, but above all by giving them integral education, the basis of development."
In accepting the award, the religious FMA did nothing but give thanks. “I have no words to thank you for this gesture, a gesture of God's Providence that has marked my life. He is present in everything. I don't deserve any of this, but I accept it on His behalf, for the congregation and for the girls and young women we work with. Don Bosco said on occasions like these: 'it is the Virgin Mary who has done everything'. Thank you, God bless you and that you can continue doing good all over the world."
The missionary also delivered a "batik" fabric to Clara Pardo, which represents the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fish, a miracle that continues to occur thanks to "Manos Unidas"; and concluded her speech by revealing a secret: "This award," she said, "will be given to girls who have become homeless in Abidjan, because their homes and businesses have been demolished."
