Italy - With Salesians for Social 1,157 young people ready to experience Universal Civil Service

03 January 2020

(ANS - Rome) – Starting mid-January, 1,157 young people will experience civil service volunteering with the Salesians for the Social sector, the non-profit organization of the Salesians in Italy that coordinates the Universal Civil Service in Italy and abroad.

In Italy and abroad there are 90 projects that will involve young people: 64 ordinary civil service projects in Italy with 752 places available; 20 projects with additional civil service measures in Italy for 365 places available (projects with additional measures that will allow young people to test several innovations introduced by the recent universal civil service reform. This is specifically a tutoring period, up to three months, aimed at facilitating access to the labor market for volunteers; measures that encourage the participation of young people with fewer opportunities).

71 projects for 971 volunteers will start on 15 January, while 13 projects for 146 volunteers on 20 February.

Abroad, there are three projects in Spain, France and Romania: the 30 volunteers from 15 to 21 January will be engaged in residential formation in Rome at Borgo Ragazzi Don Bosco. The projects abroad will be carried out in the oratories, boarding schools, schools and family homes. The activities concern free time, study support, education, creative, sports, language and music workshops. Two more VIS projects will start in February in Angola, Ghana, Ethiopia and Palestine with eight volunteers.
