Italy – GC28: concert in Basilica of Mary Help of Christians

21 February 2020

(ANS - Turin) - The Concert offered on late Wednesday evening in the Basilica of Maria Ausiliatrice is one of the appointments that are periodically performed in the Basilica itself as the result of the collaboration with the Turin Conservatory of Music that has been active for three years.

Occasions, of course, which highlight and enhance the acoustic characteristics of the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians and even more allow young talents to perform and thus offer good music to listeners. On the evening of Wednesday 19 February, the first beneficiaries were the Capitulars, who were thus able to also nurture their spirit with the beauty of music, in view of the intense weeks of work that await them.

Fr Maurizio Palazzo, responsible for the musical activities of the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians, titular organist and director of the Choir, is the drive behind a series of initiatives which, as per Salesian tradition, find a root in Don Bosco.

Those who know the saint of young people know how much he cared about music as a lively food or fuel for education. "An Oratory without music is like a body without a soul", is one of the most famous sayings of the Saint of Youth.

The Choir, made up of about 50 volunteers, are joined by a network of multiple collaborations throughout the year, both for singing and for the orchestra, which globally reach up to 200 units.
