(ANS - Rome) - The two Salesian Provinces of Spain, the result of the unification of the previous six in 2014, have completed the first two years of their existence. In this context, the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández-Artime, will pay a visit to Salesian Spain from 28 April to 14 May. For the whole Salesian Family it will be a special occasion. A visit of this kind is carried out only once in the mandate of a Rector Major.
(ANS - Madrid) – “Ebola and beyond Ebola" is the title of a photographic exhibition by Alfons Rodríguez, sponsored by the Salesian Mission Office in Madrid. It shows, through 30 images, the consequences of the terrible epidemic that devastated Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea Conakry in 2013, with several cases occurring even to the end of last year.
(ANS - Rome) - "To what extent are we prepared to take on other people's suffering, limiting our own lifestyle to make room for those in need?" This is the question some of the Salesian Cooperators in central Italy asked themselves. Their answer was that in the face of the horrors of war it is worth facing the bureaucratic complications and difficulties to restore serenity and dignity to those who are seeking help.
(ANS - Rome) - On the occasion of United Nations Earth Day (22 April) the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, supports and endorses the Interfaith Declaration on Climate Change, directed by religious and spiritual leaders to world leaders. With this gesture the Rector Major wants to remind us that care for creation is to be seen as a moral issue and he encourages the Salesians and Salesian Family members to work for the adoption of consistent behaviour and education for the protection of "our common home." (Laudato Si’, 1).
(ANS - Manta) - On 21 April a new 6.2 ° earthquake was recorded off the coast of Ecuador. The earth continues to shake, so along with the grief over the loss of loved ones people cannot find serenity and peace. The Provincial Fr Jorge Molina arrived in Manta to see the situation. "I came to be with my brother Salesians,” he explained. “It will not be easy to rebuild, but we will be here to help and to respond to the most important human needs."
(ANS - Jarudori) - The Travelling Missionary Support Programme is one of the initiatives of the Salesian Mission in Mato Grosso (Campo Grande Province). Its aim is to support the work of the Salesians who work in missions among the natives, especially with the ethnic groups, the Xavantes and Bororo. On 4 April, a team from the programme, made up of the Salesian Brothers Ludwig Würstle and Mario Bordignon and the technician Osmar Paulino Guarienti Bezerra, drilled a well 30 metres deep and built hydraulic and electrical systems in the Bororo village of Jarudori near Poxoréu.
