Funchal, Portugal - 1950 - On 25 October, seventy years ago, the Salesians arrived in Funchal. Upon their arrival, a group of students welcomed them. In this photo, we see in the foreground the then Provincial, Fr Agenor Vieira Pontes, and, immediately behind him, Fr José Maria Alves, who was the first director of the work.
