(ANS - Ortona) - The "Soggiorno Proposta" recovery community, a non-profit organization, in Ortona, Abruzzo region, of the Central Italy Circumscription (ICC), proposes an educational and therapeutic path and residential activities for young victims of addictions. In this way they can participate in an itinerary of rehabilitation to life and human recovery in an environment permeated by the charism of Don Bosco.

The center, active for 35 years, offers 4 different options depending on the needs of the recipients: there is a long therapeutic journey (a 15-month residential program with 3 months of accompanying the reintegration); short (12 months with 3 months of accompaniment); the 4-5 month reception module, for specific therapeutic objectives and in cases of recurrence; and a new module for the recovery from compulsive- and web-addictions.

The basic elements of the various programs are the centrality of the assisted persons and the therapeutic work on them, together with a pedagogy that is fulfilled in daily life through rules, daily work and sharing of space with the group of peers. In this way the methodology of the "Residency Proposal" community welcomes and enhances the contamination between individualized program and group dynamics.

Moreover, therapeutic and pedagogical work, which have different activation times, are used as complementary tools, which contaminate each other, in the certainty that there are more technical-professional tools available for the same purpose; even if dedicated to different aspects of the person, it is certainly better than using a single technical tool.

In the itineraries, the "Residency Proposal" community embraces all areas of guests' lives: psychological, affective, relational, cultural and professional, and of leisure time.

Each itinerary is divided into different modules, ranging from reception (the phase in which the beneficiary begins to deal with the "lack" of his dependence), to that of trust-awareness (the moment in which the guest matured autonomously the decision to continue the program and go on to examine those existential problems that existed before the use of the substances and that he or she tried to hide right through them).

Then comes the phase of responsibility-protagonism, which in view of a full recovery entrusts residents with the structure of service tasks, and brings them closer to identifying a personal life project outside the community; finally, the phases of planning-autonomy and gradual reintegration arrive, always carried out with the support and assistance of educators / operators.

Despite this highly structured program, any kind of automation is excluded. The timing and methods of passage of the phases are determined by the interaction between the team and the residents, in relation to the progress made.

In all the paths, moreover, the Salesian charism is present in a latent, but perceptible form: through attention to the relationship and human vocation of each, the family atmosphere, the spirit of optimism, the environment of trust and celebration, dedication to work, daily commitment and respect for time and rules, and other features.

"In every young man, even the most unfortunate, there is a point accessible to good," said Don Bosco. Ortona's community "Soggiorno Proposal" has been working for 35 years to work on that point and to give a second chance to those who have stumbled on the road of life.
