SPECIAL REPORTS

(ANS – Rome) – In a long article published in "Il Sismografo", its Director, Luis Badilla recalls the Salesian Cardinal Raúl Silva Henríquez, a monumental figure in Latin American history and in particular in Chile. The cardinal, who died in April 1999 at the age of 92, is still very much loved and remembered not only in Chile, but in the memory of many Catholics and non-Catholics. It is impossible, as the director of the "Seismograph" writes, to recall the events of the 1973 Pinochet coup without the still-living presence of Salvador Allende and Raúl Silva Henríquez, "different men but both upright men, men of peace and justice, and each in his own tenacious and uncompromising way a defender of human life and the dignity of people."

(ANS – New Rochelle) - Top of FormSalesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins humanitarian organizations and countries around the globe in honoring the International Day of Charity celebrated each year on Sept. 5. The date was chosen by the General Assembly of the United Nations to commemorate the anniversary of the passing of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 “for work undertaken in the struggle to overcome poverty and distress, which also constitute a threat to peace.”

RMG – Missionaries and Money

(ANS – New Rochelle) – Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins humanitarian organizations and countries around the globe in recognizing World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. In 2013, United Nations member states adopted a resolution that designated July 30 as the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
