India – Sacred Heart College Celebrates its 73rd College Day with Splendor and Gratitude

The festivities commenced with a soul-stirring prayer song, resonating through the air as the college choir, led by Rev. Dr. Gandhi Kallarasan, the Campus Minister, set the tone for the evening. The Rector and Secretary of the College, Rev. Dr. Praveen Peter, SDB, took the stage to extend a warm welcome and introduce the distinguished Chief Guest and Guest of Honour. It was then Rev. Dr. D. Maria Antony Raj, SDB, the Principal, who proudly showcased the college's achievements and progressive initiatives, emphasizing the transformative power of education.

Gracing the occasion as the esteemed Chief Guest was Thiru. S. Peter Alphonse, Chairman representing the State Minorities Commission, of the Government of Tamil Nadu. In his thought-provoking address, he delved into the annals of India's constitutional history, highlighting the indelible impact of visionary leaders in shaping the nation's republic. Recognizing the parallel growth of Sacred Heart College alongside the Indian Republic, he painted a vivid picture of India's educational landscape, juxtaposing the mere 7% literacy rate in 1908 with the impressive 87% recorded in the 2011 population census.

Acknowledging the historical backdrop, the Chief Guest paid tribute to the influence of Christian missionaries in fostering education. He applauded Sacred Heart College for its unwavering commitment to gender equality, with nearly half of its student body comprising women. Shedding light on the challenges faced by marginalized communities, he emphasized the vital role of inclusive education in an ever-evolving world. Adding more grace to the event as the Guest of Honour, was the presence of Rev. Dr. C. Antony Raj, SDB, Former Rector and Principal of Sacred Heart College, Tirupattur. He attributed his resilience to divine benevolence, reiterating the importance of spiritual growth alongside academic pursuits.
