RMG – Fr Adalberto Alves appointed new Superior of the Province of Campo Grande Brazil (BCG)

(ANS - Rome) - On 1 December 2025, during the winter plenary session of the General Council, the Rector Major, Fr Fabio Attard, with the consent of his Council, appointed Fr Adalberto de Jesus Alves as Superior of the Salesian St Alphonsus Maria de Liguori Province of Campo Grande Brazil (BCG), for the 2025-2031 six-year term.

Fr Alves currently serves as Rector of the Salesian house in Dourados Indápolis, a work that houses the prenovitiate formation house and a parish in the state of Mato Grosso del Sud.

Born on 8 June 1978 in Cuiabá, Capital of the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil, in the Archdiocese of Cuiabá, and son of Adão Alves de Jesus and Maria Alves dos Santos, he entered the novitiate in Dourados Indápolis on 8 February 1999, made his first vows on 31 January 2000 and his perpetual profession in Campo Grande on 31 January 2006. On 8 December 2007, he received priestly ordination in Cuiabá.

In his pastoral work, he served, from 2009 to 2016, in Campo Grande, at the Paulo VI (as Rector) and São Vicente and São José, (as Vice-Rector); in Barbacena he was Novice Director (from 2018 to 2021) and since 2021 he has been stationed in Dourados Indapolis.

From 2014 to 2017 he was BCG's Vice-Provincial and from 2015 to 2017 he was Provincial Delegate for Formation and the Salesian Family.

Fr Adalberto Alves will succeed Fr Ricardo Carlos in leading BCG and will be the 21st Superior of the Province.
