(ANS - Managua) - The Nicaraguan nation is experiencing one of the deepest crises in its history. A people that has denounced the arbitrariness of the government, which represses it, annihilates and arrests it. No one can go out to "protest", not even in the presence of international human rights organizations. The population is experiencing much pain and anguish.
(ANS - Mumbai) - At a time when in India the public debate is occupied by identity issues and many are busy with raising walls, rather than building bridges, between different cultures, religions and traditions, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) has given a mandate to all Catholic schools to read, comment and teach young people the Preamble to the Constitution of India, which promotes inclusive values among all citizens.
(ANS - Managua) - Two months of intense protests have been going on in Nicaragua. Time passes quickly and the incessant repression of the police, paramilitary groups and those close to the government of Daniel Ortega continues to make the nation cry.
(ANS - Vatican City) - "Beware of blaming young people for their distance from the Church"; instead, proceed towards an "institutional conversion, which concerns the way we live and work together". These are some of the suggestions offered by Salesian Fr Rossano Sala, SDB, Special Secretary of the Synod of Bishops on "Youth, faith and vocational discernment", during the press conference to present the Instrumentum Laboris of the Synod - the working document for the synod fathers.
(ANS - Fátima) - The Portuguese bishops met in Fatima to address the theme of young people, youth ministry and vocations in the context of the forthcoming Synod of Bishops. On the agenda, issues related to accompaniment, faith, vocational discernment, the space that young people have in parish communities, the integration of young people and their contribution to evangelization. In support of the work of reflection of the Portuguese episcopate were Fr Fabio Attard, General Councilor for Youth Ministry, and Fr Mario Óscar Llanos, SDB, Dean of the Faculty of Educational Sciences of the Salesian Pontifical University.
(ANS - Turin) - After a long journey of preparation, the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the consecration of the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians in Turin reach their climax tomorrow, June 9th 2018. On the exact day of the anniversary, Msgr. Renato Boccardo, archbishop of Spoleto, will preside over a solemn Eucharistic Concelebration, inside the Basilica.

Myanmar – Tragedy of Innocent Children in the midst of Armed Conflicts
(ANS – Naypyidaw) - Myanmar finds itself immersed in profound grief and anguish as innocent lives, particularly those of children, continue to be mercilessly lost in the enduring armed conflicts. Families are left devastated by the tragic loss of their loved ones while the relentless violence shows no signs of abating. This week, a heartfelt plea from Myanmar reached our community, shedding light on the heart-wrenching death of a young girl Juliet in a military airstrike, prompting a unified call for prayers and action.

(ANS – Rome) – The synergy between the Salesian Youth Sports Centres (PGS) and the Pontifical Salesian University (UPS) in Rome gave rise to the conference on "Education and culture of safeguarding in sport. Towards the establishment of models of protection and prevention", which will take place on 13 April, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., at the UPS facilities in Rome.

Latin America – Strengthening Vocational and Educational Commitment Today: 30 Years of the Salesian School in Latin America
(ANS) – Since the first meeting in Cumbayá (Ecuador), 30 years ago, educational processes on the continent have found a collaborative epicentre which has given rise to the Salesian School in (Latin) America – ESA, in Spanish – as a forum for reflection and a common path. Many Salesians of Don Bosco (SDB), Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) and other groups of the Salesian Family (SF) have enriched this synodal journey, focusing on young people and their integral development. What are today's demands of us in the educational field? How are we building the Salesian School of the future? Can we further strengthen this great Salesian educational network in America? Some FMAs and Salesians who were at the first meeting in 1994, share their experience and their vision of how this journey has allowed a growth in the understanding of the youth reality, in the strategic decisions within the Provinces themselves and in the challenges that emerge for Salesian education.
