South Korea – Formation sessions for Salesian Family Delegates

21 November 2016

(ANS – Seoul) – After the establishment of the Secretariat for the Salesian Family following GC27, the new central team headed by Fr Eusebio Munoz is organizing formation sessions for Salesian Family Delegates in all seven Salesian Regions. In the East Asia-Oceania Region three seminars are being organized, in Korea, Vietnam and in the Philippines, each lasting three days. In the first seminar in Seoul (KOR) from 15-17 November about 40 members were present from AUL, CIN, GIA, KOR and VIE-Mongolia Delegation. There were 31 SDB and 2 SDB novices, 6 FMA and 2 Salesian Cooperators, both diocesan priests.

Almost all the members of the World Secretariat for the Salesian Family were present: Fr Eusebio Munoz (Delegate of the RM), Fr Giuseppe Casti, World Delegate to the Salesians Cooperators, Fr Joan Lluis Playa, Central Assistant for the VDB-CDB and Fr Pier Luigi Cameroni, Spiritual Animator of ADMA. Their presence was a good model for animation at provincial level, and the true synergy and interaction between the Delegates impressed all participants.

The goals of these formation session are four-fold:

  • Grasp the rich reality of the Salesian Family
  • present in the world Study some basic documents of the SF in order to revitalize the Salesian Family
  • Operation goals for building the Salesian family in all EAO provinces
  • Foster greater synergy at the level of Salesian Family among the EAO provinces.

Among the highlights were the testimonials of two provincial councillors of the Salesian Cooperator (KOR) - Andrew (Vocation promotion) and Angela (Formation) and the General secretary of the Federation of Don Bosco Past Pupils, Thomas Moor Kim, who participated in the recent 11th EAO Congress in Dili, Timor Leste. Listening to the Lay Mission Partners and members of Salesian Family was at the centre of this encounter.

All participants were also grateful for the proactive presence of Mr Philip Yu (EAO regional councilor of the Salesian Cooperators) and interaction with the Korean Salesians in the Seoul communities of Kuro 3 Dong, Don Bosco Youth Center and Dae Rim Dong.

Each day the Eucharist was presided over by one of the provincials from Japan, China and Korea. And each day the main Gospel theme was focused on the preferential option for youth in need. In his conclusions Fr Eusebio Munoz requested a renewed commitment of the Salesian Family to this kind of mission.

At the end of the meeting all provinces drew up their ACTION PLAN for the Salesian Family (2016-2019) with a specific focus on the four strategies:

  1. make sure  there are solid structures in each province: Delegate, Advisory Council - Consulta, Provincial Feast of SF and Joint formation of the SF groups;
  2. Formation at all levels: members of each groups, all SDB and FMA, provincial and local delegates;
  3. accompaniment of persons and groups;
  4. foster a mature responsibility of the lay people as a counter-cultural movement.
