Rome, Italy - May 2020 - On 14 May 1887, Don Bosco attended the consecration of the temple dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. On 16 May 1887, he celebrated his only Mass at the altar dedicated to Mary Help of Christians. "More than 15 times he was seen fighting to finish the Holy Mass," report the Biographical Memoirs. To assist him was Fr Carlo Viglietti, his secretary. "Don Bosco's crying greatly impressed those present and many began to cry." The painting is a work of art by Giuseppe Rollini (1887) and the altar was donated by Prince Torlonia.
(ANS - Rome) - It was a weekend full of activities for the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime. On the occasion of the Feast Day of Don Bosco, of which Fr Á.F. Artime is X Successor, the whole Salesian world, and beyond, looked to him to receive his charismatic word. The busy schedule of commitments, however, did not distract from the essential: spreading the example of life of the Founder as an authentic man of God, at the service of men.
(ANS - Rome) - On the occasion of the feast day of Don Bosco, next Sunday, 31 January, the Holy Mass will be broadcast live from the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Rome, located in the same complex that today houses the Salesian Headquarters, on Italy's top channel, RaiUno: at 10:55 am - UTC + 1. The Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime, will preside over the celebration, while the liturgical animation will be provided by a representative of the choir of the Salesian Youth Movement of Central Italy, directed by Fr Francesco De Ruvo, SDB.
(ANS - Rome) - The Salesian commitment to fight Covid-19 is a global initiative as much as the pandemic is global, and has not left any Salesian Province or presence in the world indifferent. This is true not only in the extreme peripheries of the Congregation, but also at its base: last Friday, at the "Sacred Heart" in Rome, which houses the Salesian Headquarters, the young people of the Salesian oratory, in collaboration with the international volunteer organization "Serve the City", distributed health kits for the prevention of coronavirus infections to the homeless around Termini station.
