Italy – India SYM relive the Turin Oratory

10 August 2023

(ANS – Turin) – 66 SYM Youth and SDBs from India who were WYD pilgrims to Lisbon concluded their pilgrimage with a solemn English Mass at the sanctuary of the apparition of Our Lady at Fatima, and then proceeded to the second part of their pilgrimage to the land of Don Bosco, Turin, Italy.

“The WYD23 itself was such a spiritual journey as we were touched by the spirituality of millions of youth from across the globe” said Zareen Warlarpih, a SYM Pilgrim from Shillong Province. “What touched me most was the love and respect that youngsters have towards the Pope who is the head of the Church”, said Rajni Chirmako of Kolkatta. For many of them the WYD was a first life changing experience meeting with over 1.5 million youngsters, who were inspired enthusiastically by the Holy Father to shine, to listen and to be courageous.

Yesterday, on 9th August, the Indian SDB WYD young battalion, was led to Turin, by Fr. Robert Simon and Fr. Patric Lepcha the former and present Don Bosco South Asia Youth Ministry delegates, to visit Becchi, the land of Don Bosco. While at Becchi, “the explanation given by Fr. Thatti Reddy, the Rector of Colle Don Bosco was like listening to my favourite songs on iTunes. I came to know the full history of my father Don Bosco and also other saints”, said Jerin Nelson from SYM Mumbai.

“Tears started rolling down my cheeks, as I came to know the struggles of the Bosco family and Mamma Margaret, and how many sacrifices Johnny Bosco had to make” said Ruokuo from Dimapur. Similary, Pranali Desai of Panjim Province was in tears as she attentively listened to the life and works of Don Bosco, “This is a great miracle, and truly God’s marvellous plan for the young people”.

After these enriching experiences at Becchi, the group came back to Turin, to the Oratory of San Luigi - the second oratory started by Don Bosco. It was indeed a re-living of that oratory started in 1884, where the SYM youth had games, songs, dances, prayers and encounters in a true Salesian family Spirit. In fact ‘it is the happiest day of my life, to have lived with Don Bosco here at San Luigi’ confessed another young person from the group. The. Spirit of Don Bosco is fully alive and vibrant in these young people who started feeling personally the impact of the life and mission of Don Bosco.
