18 March 2016

(ANS - Cusco) - Cusco, in the south-eastern region of Peru, is one of the main tourist attractions in the world, thanks to its history, its architecture and the fact that it houses one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu. Among its inhabitants, about 1.3 million people, 400 thousand are children and adolescents under 15 years. The Salesians in the city are very active through schools, missions, shelters, a nursing home and oratories, The Salesian Oratory is one of the most important places in Cusco.

In March the oratory opened its doors to more than 300 children, teenagers and mothers of families of the surrounding areas and other parts of the city. The Oratory Activities for 2016 were inaugurated at the "Colegio Salesiano" in Cusco.

Two Salesians, Jorge Cardenas and Pedro Martínez, organized the welcome. The Youth Director, Fr Julio Acurio Yupanqui, SDB, presided at the Eucharist and the children participated with great enthusiasm.

Afterwards there was a friendly meal together and various games and group activities to facilitate interaction and integration among the young, in a healthy entertainment environment.

The generous service rendered by the Salesian oratory of Cusco is a good example of the work done by the Salesians on behalf of children and young people most in need in Peru.
