(ANS - Gumbo) - Conflict and famine in South Sudan are severely affecting minors. “In two days we weighed more than 300 children and we found that more than 200, between 3 and 6 years of age, are malnourished and of these, 170 are in a situation of a severe malnutrition”, as reported by the Salesian mission at Gumbo, near the Capital of the country, Giuba. “It was like a bad dream, we did not expect that the situation could be so serious”, they add.

(ANS - Goma) - Plagued by a guerrilla that has lasted over twenty years, the Northern Kivu region, although being rich in natural resources, is marked by the most extreme poverty, raids and violence. The girls are the first victims of this dramatic situation. They become mothers even before they become adults, not infrequently as a result of an abuse. They are lonely and helpless, slightly older than their children. The Salesians of Goma have opened two structures dedicated especially to them: the “Maison Marguerite” and the “Foyer Annuarite”.

(ANS - Rome) - As usual on May 24, the feast of Mary Help of Christians, every year draws in Turin Valdocco the attention of several thousands of pilgrims devoted to the “Don Bosco’s Virgin”, together with various personalities of the Salesian Family. Many events are scheduled, from the more traditional ones, such as numerous celebrations and the popular processions on May 24th, up to very special events, such as the annual meeting of the World Consultative Body of the Salesian Family, which starts just today, Monday, 22 May.
