Tonj, South Sudan – December 2023 – The 13th Youth Congress for the Catholic Diocese of Rumbek, South Sudan was held at the Don Bosco Mission, the parish of the Sacred Heart, Tonj. More than 300 young people from the western deanery of the Diocese, which includes 5 parishes: Tonj, Thiet, Romic, Marial-lou and Warrap, participated. The congress was held from 26 to 29 December 2023 on the theme "One body, one spirit in Christ" (Eph 4: 4). On 26 December 2023, Fr Alphonse Owoudou, SDB, Councillor for the Africa-Madagascar Region, and Fr Paul Antimi, SDB, Delegate for Sudan and South Sudan, opened the youth congress in the presence of Bishop Christian Carlassare, bishop of Rumbek. During the four days of the congress, young people explored various topics, including the Rector Major's Strenna 2024 ""The dream that makes you dream". A heart that transforms "wolves" into "lambs". The culmination of the congress was reached with a penitential liturgy, during which the young people were able to approach the sacrament of reconciliation, followed by the Eucharistic procession around the city of Tonj.
