Peru - Salesian Institute: Prototype CNC Project at the Twenty-second Congress of Education, Business and Technology

20 October 2016

(ANS - Lima) - The most recent study conducted by UNICEF on adolescents in Peru confirms a serious crisis. There are more than 3.6 million Peruvians between 12 and 18 years of age.  Of these, "it is estimated that in rural areas 74% are poor, while in cities the percentage is 39.8%. Poverty, exclusion and inequality are normal for these young people." Technical institutes are a way to give work to poorer young people. At present it is estimated that there are on average 400,000 technical education students as well as those in professional institutes designed to improve the productive sector.

The Salesians in Peru have always worked to improve standards in the technical institutions, in particular through the SALESTEC Institute. In addition, each year they hold a large Congress which constitutes a contribution for all young people. This Twenty-second Congress was attended by thousands of young people, all eager to learn and to get to know different companies in which they hope to find a job.

The "SALESTEC" mission is to promote technological research among its students and the proof of its success is seen in the different projects that have been done in various areas in 2016. The first "Integrated dual-spindle lathe prototype" was presented at the Congress, a product of the Research, Development and Innovation Department of the Salesian Institute. With the Salesian experience of 124 years technical instruction in Peru, the SALESTEC Institute took part in this project. Its role was one of technical expertise providing solutions to mechanical problems that arose in the project.

The congress was attended by various companies in Peru that are working in strategic alliance with the Salesian Institute. Several companies have brought their best professionals of the sectors in which the Salesian Institute provides training to thousands of young people between 18 and 35 years of age. Participants were able to receive information in the areas of Electrical Energy, Electronics, Production Mechanics, Car and Motorcycle Mechanics, Welding and so on.

Undoubtedly, this Twenty-second Congress of Education, Business and Technology, promoted by the Salesians, will benefit thousands of young people looking for technical careers and a better future.
