20 July 2018

(ANS - Barcelona) –  The "Marticoffee" educational and social cafeteria project was presented on Tuesday 17 July before a large audience with many people filling the hall and huge media interest in a project promoted by the Salesian Social Platform of the Martí-Codolar center, one of the nine Social Education Platforms of "Salesians Sant Jordi" in the autonomous community of Catalonia.

The leaders of "Sant Jordi Salesians" are firmly convinced that the formation and integration of young people into the job market is essential to their achieving autonomy, gaining resources and knowledge that transform their lives and the environment around them. It is a line of work that "Salesians Sant Jordi" is strongly promoting in collaboration with "Fundació Jovent", also of the Salesians.

Present at the event were Paco Estellés, Director of "Salesians Sant Jordi" and also of "Fundació Jovent"; Beatriz Martínez, Counselor of the Employment Area of the Horta Guinardó District; and Raúl Lerones, Director of the Social Platform of the Salesians of Martí-Codolar.

"Marticoffee" is a project that has emerged from the Employment Promotion Network as part of the Horta-Guinardó economic development plan. Every year, thanks to this work and vocational training experience, 40 of the young people attending the hotel courses will be able to gain experience and work at the Salesian center in Martí Codolar.

In this process of formation, accompaniment and socio-professional integration, "Salesians Sant Jordi" and "Fundació Jovent" proceed hand in hand and coordinate to offer the best opportunities for training and work for the most vulnerable young people.

During 2017, "Salesians Sant Jordi", through its nine platforms in Catalonia, has carried out 54 projects in many areas: promotion of the life quality of children; social and work placement of young people; welcome and reception to migrants; residential assistance; family orientation and community development – in all, it has helped a total of 4,072 children and young people who were at risk of social exclusion.

The "Fundació Jovent" counts on collaborators in the world of formal and non-formal education, people who accompany these youths to develop their first work experience, ensure it is successful and that it guarantees that their experience and autonomy enables them to seek and find jobs subsequently, or to encourage them to continue with their professional or vocational training.
