Kraków, Poland - March 2023 - A meeting of the Salesians of the Quinquennium from all four Polish Provinces was held from March 2-4 at the Interprovincial Theological Studentate in Kraków. The agenda included various formative meetings. Young Salesians from across Poland also reflected on the theme of pastoral care for people who are far from the Church and the faith.
Hinsley Hall was the site of our annual meeting (10-12 March). Despite the snowy weather, all arrived safely. Our main speaker was Professor Jim McManus who guided us through a number of sessions on 'Keeping Leaders Healthy', 'Keeping Communities Healthy', and 'Self-care'. A very lively discussion was held on these topics, with much to reflect about. We also took the opportunity to update on 'Youth Ministry', 'Social Communication', and 'Formation', with other Province Matters (including Safeguarding, Schools and Province Retreats). It was also good to hear from the Rectors about what was happening at the local level. We are already counting the days before the next gathering!!
San Cristobal, Venezuela - March 2023 - Salesian deacon Freddy José Suárez was ordained a priest on Saturday, March 18, through the laying on of hands and consecratory prayer of Msgr. Juan Ayala, Auxiliary Bishop of San Cristobal. The ordination was attended by Fr. Rafael Montenegro, Salesian Provincial Superior of Venezuela (VEN), and a large group of Salesians and members of the Salesian Family.
On 18th March, 2023, Sacred Heart Community, Kristu Jyoti College marked a red-letter day as 29 brothers, 24 Salesians from KJC, 3 from Passionist Congregation and 2 from Missionaries of the Sacred Heart were ordained as deacons by his Lordship Most Rev. Peter Machado, the Archbishop of Bangalore. The solemn occasion was blessed with the presence of Rev. Fr. Thomas Koyickal, the Provincial of Bangalore, Rev. Fr. Don Bosco Lourdusamy the Provincial of Chennai, Rev. Fr. Agilan Satprasadam, the Provincial of Trichy, Rev. Fr. Garlapati Michael Kishore, the Vice-Provincial of Hyderabad along with priests, religious, parents, relatives and friends of the ordained deacons. The Holy Eucharist began at 10am with a procession from the entrance.
