India - Provincial Chapter of Chennai Salesians

Chennai, India - February 2022 - The Salesian Province "St. Thomas the Apostle" of Chennai (INM) started its Provincial Chapter on February 22 at the "Don Bosco" Provincial House with 116 Chapter members. Fr. Jose Kochamkunnel, INM Provincial, declared the Provincial Chapter open, with Fr. Pathiaraj Rayappan as the Regulator. The inaugural Eucharistic celebration was presided over by the Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore, Msgr. George Antonysamy, who emphasized: "Don Bosco has passed on a legacy and a spirituality of accompaniment that must be lived in our mission with the youth of today." Also, a message was read by Fr. Biju Michael, Councilor for the South Asia Region, urging the Chapter members to renew their commitment to the poorest youth. Present at the opening of the Provincial Chapter were representatives of various groups of the Salesian Family including Sr. Maria Nirmala Lazar, FMA Provincial of Chennai, and Sr. Josephine Selvi, Superior General of the Sisters of Mary Help of Christians (SMA), who shared their reflections on the refocusing and renewal of commitment to young people.
