RMG - Salesian Missionary Offices are looking towards the future

11 February 2019

(ANS - Rome) - The World Conference of those responsible for the Salesian Missionary Offices, held in Rome last month, has indicated the roadmap for the future path of these organisms. For the concrete support of the Salesian mission in the world, the Missionary Offices are called to act along four lines: greater subsidiarity, solidarity, efficacy and transparency.

The specific objectives are:

  1. Subsidiarity: Each Province or Vice-Province is called upon to become progressively more self-sustaining. This means finding the necessary resources within their own Province or country, thus reducing the dependence on foreign aid. Thus, the Provinces shall have to develop their own capacity to look for and gather funds locally. Provinces that have not started local fundraising are called upon to do so.
  2. Solidarity: Every Province and every Mission Office (Procura) shall, however, bear in mind the entire Congregation and contribute to those who have greater needs and less resources.
  3. Effectiveness: the Mission Offices shall have to learn the most effective ways of finding resources, methods which change with the times. Why those in charge of the Mission Offices are working on greater collaboration among all the Mission Offices. Important steps in the growth of effectiveness and efficiency shall be the building of a valid brand that is global, the sharing of material for communication and the broadcasting of similar, cohesive and coherent messages.
  4. Transparency: The Salesian standards of fundraising and administration shall go beyond the simple demands of the general public. Why a general code of ethics at the Congregational level shall be elaborated and each Province or Vice-Province will also formulate their own rules to adhere to.

The Missionary Offices are today indispensable organisms for the Salesian mission. The guidelines identified and set down shall serve to always help increasingly more and better those young people in need so loved by Don Bosco.
