(ANS – Nashik) – Around 350 Scouts and Guides from various Salesian schools of the Mumbai Province, along with Salesian priests, sisters and brothers from the communities in Nashik, participated in the official launch of the 13th National Boscoree, an all-India gathering of Scouts and Guides from Salesian schools. The event took place on 3 July at Don Bosco High School, Nashik.

(ANS – Warsaw) – On 25th June 2017 Salesians in Poland celebrated the 25th anniversary of the presence of the Salesian Mission Procure in its current location in Warsaw. Salesian Mission Procure was established in 1981. There were two temporary offices: first one in Lodz, after which it moved to Warsaw. 

(ANS - Siedliska) - On Sunday 2 July in Siedliska, Poland, the native country of Blessed Józef Kowalski, SDB, celebrated the 75th anniversary of his martyrdom which took place in the concentration camp of Auschwitz on July 4, 1942. It has been over ten years since commemorating Blessed Józef Kowalski on the first Sunday of July in his parish of origin has become a tradition.

(ANS – Bruxelles) – On 28th June under the title ‘Is Europe doing enough to protect fundamental rights?’ the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) hosted a high-level symposium in cooperation with the Maltese Presidency of the Council of the EU. The symposium addressed the three most burning issues on the EU’s policy agenda by focusing on migration and asylum, insecurity and fear, and poverty and social exclusion. Particular attention was paid to the children’s perspective, and children themselves took part in the event as speakers and commentators.

(ANS - Luanda) - Salesians in Angola, with the help of the NGO "International Voluntary Service for Development" (VIS), organized a round table on Friday, June 23, on "Advocacy for the Protection of Children in Risk Situations." The event was the occasion to present the Manual "Projecto Educativo-Pedagógico para Reinserção de Crianças e Adolescentes de e na Rua", or the Educational-Pedagogical Project for the Reintegration of Children and Adolescents of and on the Streets, which explains in detail the steps needed to pursue a path of (re) education and reintegration into society, according to the values ​​and principles of the Preventive System.

(ANS – Bruxelles) – More than 250 non-governmental organizations from across Europe have released an alternative vision for a more democratic, just and sustainable Europe today, June 20, 2017. Intended to influence the debate on the future direction of Europe, this alternative vision is endorsed by organisations representing a multitude of public interest issues, including labour rights, culture, development, environment, health, women’s rights, youth, and anti-discrimination groups.

(ANS - Rome) - In 2016, 25,846 unaccompanied minors landed in Italy: 1 migrant in 6 was a minor traveling alone. For their part, the Salesians with the SCS - Salesian Social Federation - have activated 12 services for 207 unaccompanied minors, 6 services for the reception of refugees, which have reached 262 people. In addition, there were 14 Italian language training services for 677 beneficiaries and 4 services for job placement projects for 96 people.

(ANS - San Salvador) - El Salvador's "Universidad Don Bosco", faithful to its spirit of social engagement and professional and productive development, fosters programs for the inclusion of women in the fields of technology and science, such as the Program for Women In Science and Engineering (WISE Program). During the month of June, the University's academic authorities and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) inaugurated the "Science Girl Camp" science camp for 2017.

 

(ANS - Bologna) - From 18 to 22 June, scholars from Europe and around the globe shall meet in Bologna for "#ExNihilo, the 'zero conference' on research in the religious fields" promoted by the European Academy of Religion. On Monday, 19 June, Fr Francesco Motto, SDB, President of the Association of Salesian Historians (ACSSA) will present a lecture entitled "Surviving and growing in difficult times: the Salesian Educative Mission in Europe in the First Half of the Twentieth Century.”

(ANS - Valencia) - The Spanish Confederation of the Past Pupils of Don Bosco begins its second century of life with the aim of opening itself up to volunteer work and sharing the Salesian mission.
