The chosen theme – “Developing a Sense of Belonging to the Association of Salesian Cooperators” – guided the discussions over the four-day event, allowing participants to focus on the identity, mission, and commitment of the Cooperators in today’s world.
Representatives came from six countries within the AON Province: Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali, Guinea Conakry, Gambia, and Senegal. This geographical diversity enriched the experience and demonstrated the vibrant life of the Association throughout the Province.
The Congress featured a variety of activities: an opening Eucharistic celebration, keynote presentations on Salesian charism, lay co-responsibility, and the mission of the Salesian Cooperators, followed by group work aimed at defining concrete action plans. Times of prayer, fellowship, and recreation helped strengthen the bond among participants.
A recurring theme in the discussions was the urgent need to strengthen the sense of belonging. Participants emphasized the importance of ongoing formation, witness through daily life, and greater visibility of the Cooperators’ actions. They were also reminded of their calling to be faithful witnesses of Don Bosco wherever they live and work.
The highlight of the Congress was the official installation of the first Provincial Council of the Salesian Cooperators in AON. The new five-member council is led by Élisabeth Ndiaye from Senegal, who will coordinate regional activities and support the development, animation, and structuring of local centers.
This first Congress laid the foundation for a renewed dynamic within the AON Province. From now on, the Salesian Cooperators of AON will move forward with greater clarity, unity, and commitment – united by a single goal: to fully live out their Salesian vocation in service to young people and the Church.
