Vatican – Fr. Convertini and Fr. Vandor are Venerable

(ANS – Vatican City) – On January 20th, 2017, Pope Francis received in audience Card. Angelo Amato, S.D.B., Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, and in the course of the audience authorized the Congregation to promulgate the decrees concerning the heroic virtues of the Servants of God Francesco Convertini and José Vech Vandor, professed priests of the Society of St. Francis de Sales.

The diocesan inquiry for Fr. Convertini was celebrated at the diocesan Curia of Krishnagar, India, from December 12, 1997, to June 20th, 2005, and its validity was recognized by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints with a decree dated June 19th, 2006. After the Positio prepared according to the usual procedure, there was the discussion on whether the Servant of God had practiced the virtues in a heroic degree. With a positive result, on November 11th, 2015 there followed the Peculiar Congress of Theologian Consultants and on January 10th, 2017, the Ordinary Session of Cardinals and Bishops.

The diocesan investigation for Fr. José Vech Vandor was celebrated at the episcopal Curia of Santa Clara, Cuba, from October 8th, 2003, to August 10th, 2008, and its validity was recognized by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints with a decree dated March 11th, 2011. After the Positio and the discussion, according to the usual procedure, on whether the Servant of God had exerted virtues in a heroic degree, on February 18th, 2016, there followed, with a positive result, the Peculiar Congress of Theologian Consultants and on January 17th, 2017, the Ordinary Session of Cardinal and Bishops.

Venerability is the recognition on behalf of the Church that a Servant of God practiced to a heroic degree the theological virtues of faith, hope and charity towards God and the neighbour, and the cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, temperance and fortitude, as well as the other related virtues.
