Chile – “Fundación Don Bosco” Reopens Iconic Patio Don Bosco Punitaqui in La Florida
La Florida, Chile – July 23, 2025 - With emotions running high and a strong sense of community, the Fundación Don Bosco (a Salesian Social Service initiative to benefit young people in Chile) reopened the Patio Don Bosco Punitaqui, a landmark space in the heart of La Florida. The reopening ceremony brought together authorities, entrepreneurs, families, and most importantly, the children and youth who give life to this place — a space that for 25 years has served as a home, school, and playground.
The event showcased the powerful impact of preventive education on vulnerable communities. In his speech, Fundación Don Bosco’s Vice President, Ramiro Urenda, emphasized the project's philosophy of treating children and adolescents with love to prevent them from ending up on the streets. “Nearly half of the children in our country live surrounded by violence,” he stated.
However, the highlight of the event came from the young people themselves, whose heartfelt testimonies demonstrated just how vital the Patio is in their lives. The day concluded with reflections and a blessing from Fr. Víctor Mora, President of Fundación Don Bosco, attended by the Mayor of La Florida, Daniel Reyes, Salesian Vice Provincial Fr. Juan Bustamante, and Salesian Family representatives.
