India - Salesians Rebuild Homes for Fire Victims in Kolkata

02 September 2025

Kolkata, India -  September 2025 – After a February fire destroyed homes of 35 families near Sealdah station, the Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS) restored hope by building 34 permanent houses in Narkeldanga. The homes, handed over on August 31, mark the end of months of displacement. “This is not just a house; it’s our dignity back,” shared a beneficiary. The project, led by Fr. Mathew George, also provided essential household items, continuing DBDS's legacy of empowering marginalized communities in Kolkata. To date, the DBDS has built 564 low-cost houses along Kolkata’s canals, supporting hundreds of marginalized families.
