The Philippines – Cebu Cluster Salesians Hold Christmas Recollection and Fellowship

15 December 2025

Cebu City, the Philippines – December 2025 – The Salesians of the Cebu Cluster celebrated their Christmas recollection and fellowship on December 13, 2025, at Don Bosco Formation Center–Lawaan. More than forty Salesians from the communities of Liloan, Talamban, Lourdes, DBTC, Balamban, Pasil, Lawaan, Borongan, and Dumaguete joined the event. Fr. Mario Baclig, SDB, led the recollection through Lectio Divina, guiding the Salesians in reflecting on the mystery of the Incarnation of the Word of God. Confession, Holy Hour, and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist concluded the day’s spiritual exercises. Fr. Amelito Racelis, SDB, FIS Provincial Superior, presided over the Holy Mass. In his homily, he emphasized the need for each Salesian to be an inspiration to their community and to the young people entrusted to them, so as to nurture in them the seeds of vocation. The Salesians were joined by the aspirants, pre-novices, and novices in their Christmas fellowship. It was a simple gathering yet filled with family spirit. The young people of DBYC–Lawaan offered their carols to the Salesians, while the aspirants and pre-novices performed their jingles to the delight of everyone. In his closing remarks, Fr. Mel exhorted each Salesian to return to the sacred tradition of friendly chats with the young as a key to inspiring Salesian vocations. Amid this year’s series of natural calamities that affected everyone, even a humble Christmas fellowship such as this brought much-needed hope and renewal of spirit. For the Salesians who carry the burdens of many in their communities, the Christmas gathering offered a moment of rest and an opportunity to reconnect with their confreres during this festive Yuletide season.
