Portugal – Porto’s Salesian Anima Mission on service in Murtosa

05 March 2026

(ANS – Murtosa) – At the end of February, about thirty students from the Salesian secondary school in Porto participated in the ‘Anima Mission’, which in 2026 took place in the city of Murtosa. Inspired by the theme ‘I came to serve’, the young people set out with the aim of an experience of service to others, offering their time and energy to God and to the most needy people in the community. The young people were involved in numerous activities: they provided support to the Reception Centre and the Mercy Nursery, helped the Veiros Day Centre and carried out door-to-door services, visiting people who were alone or in vulnerable situations. Every gesture of care, every conversation and every shared smile helped the young volunteers to understand, in practice, the true meaning of service. In addition to community service, the students participated in the daily celebration of the Eucharist and other parish celebrations, offering moments of faith, joy and sharing to the local population. Year after year, the Anima Mission continues to strengthen the Salesians' commitment to forming young people who are attentive to the needs of the world and capable of serving with generosity, joy and faith.
